Step 3 on the CO2 performance ladder

Huisman Etech Experts places great importance on sustainability. Following our CO2 performance ladder certification in 2021, we recently passed the interim audit with flying colours.

We always strive for the most sustainable and efficient results in projects for our customers. This also applies to our business operations. We are a leader in sustainability in our market. In 2021, we obtained our CO2 performance ladder certification, A management tool developed by ProRail in 2009 which has been owned and operated by the Stichting Klimaatvriendelijk Aanbesteden en Ondernemen (SKAO) since 2011. It helps companies and governments reduce their CO2 emissions and costs.

Fleet

An analysis of our carbon footprint shows that our premises and vehicle fleet are the biggest energy consumers. We have taken measures in both areas to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions. We consciously choose measures that are currently feasible. “We cannot yet replace our entire fleet with electric vehicles,” says QHSE coordinator Claire Sloots. “Commercial electric vehicles still have too short a range, which is a real problem for us, and they are also quite expensive. However, we have already replaced many inefficient diesels, and have acquired a number of economical and hybrid vehicles. We opt for the latest and most sustainable technology as much as possible.”

Buildings

Last year, we installed LED lighting in our warehouse and workshops. In 2023, we will add more solar panels to the roof of our head office and install solar panels on our office in Buitenkaag. We are also taking numerous smaller measures. Employees are actively involved in this development. “We regularly communicate about our current footprint and encourage our staff to switch off all energy consumers in the offices before going home,” says Claire Sloots. “We also held a toolbox meeting with tips on how to drive more economically. Every little bit helps.”

Tenders

We are seeing sustainability becoming increasingly important in tenders. This is one of the reasons why we will continue to work hard to make our assets and activities more sustainable. We are audited for the CO2 performance ladder annually and are required to provide insight into our footprint every six months. Claire Sloots regularly attends network meetings on sustainability to see what market initiatives we can join or what technology might be of interest to us. “After those meetings, we always consider which innovations are feasible and useful for us.”
