Here comes the Huisman Etech Express!
After months of secrecy, the time had finally come; on 22 May, together with colleagues, students from various schools and none other than TV presenter Jochem van Gelder, we unveiled the Huisman Etech Express!
Mobile workstation
‘There are an incredible number of opportunities for young people in engineering,’ according to directors Peter and Rob Huisman. ‘The whole sector is desperately looking for employees. Our specialism, electrical engineering, is very exciting. Many trainees and graduates discover this at our company every year. We wanted to create even more space for young people to learn about electrical engineering. The idea of a mobile workshop had been rattling around in our heads for some time. Last year, we came across an old passenger bus. That's how the idea of the Huisman Etech Express was born.’
Transformation
The bus was completely stripped and refurbished by ourselves together with local partners. Naturally, it was fitted with new electrical wiring and lighting, among other things. In the back, a bench has been installed on which students can watch a presentation on a large screen. At modern and fully equipped workbenches, the youngsters can roll up their sleeves themselves.
For every age
The Huisman Etech Express is designed to run workshops at regional primary and secondary schools. For each age group, an assignment has been developed and devised by the company's own Huisman Etech Experts from the field. They will also assist the youngsters in the practical implementation. The assignments were tested on beforehand at schools with which we frequently cooperate. Afterwards, the youngsters can take an Instax selfie with classmates as a souvenir and receive a goodie bag.
Multifunctional
The timeframe of a technical workshop in the Huisman Etech Express is determined in consultation with the schools, bearing in mind the specific lesson programmes and schedules. A maximum of 15 students can board the bus at a time, about half a class. The Huisman Etech Express arrives at the school completely free of charge. In addition, the Etech Express can be used as a mobile practical classroom for upskilling our own staff.
The making of...
Various colleagues were involved in the transformation of an old regular bus into the Huisman Etech Express. Of course, we carried out the electrical work ourselves and can tell you all about it. We also enjoyed collaborating with companies in the region.
